BuKaraDo
The phrase BuKaraDo translates as follows, Bu stands for military, martial, or warrior, Kara stands for
empty or clear, and Do stands for way, path or method. Therefore; BuKaraDo is “The warriors empty
way”, “The clear path of a martial artist”,”The Way of the Warrior's Method”. The word empty relating
to the ego of an individual. In other words, unselfish and humble.

BKD is the way in which one travels the road or path of martial arts knowledge. BKD is enjoying and
loving the process of being a martial artist, a warrior, without concern for technique or ability, its just
living it! BKD is about learning and developing character (as outlined in the Code of BuKaraDo).

BKD is what the Japanese refer to as, “Budo”. Budo is the way or path one chooses as a martial
artist. It is the methodology. It is the “code of conduct” a martial artist strives to live by.

BKD is why one trains and practices. This is the reason for the existence of martial arts.

BKD is living the life of a martial artist. It is the search for self-improvement and self-perfection. It is
the process of being a martial artist.

In BKD the practitioner will develop, Honor, Respect, Trust, Loyalty, Dedication, Integrity, Sacrifice,
Control, Courage, and Wisdom. This is called the “Code of BuKaraDo”.

BKD is the martial artist.

BKD is a way of viewing our self from the outside-in. We know our self completely. We have shared
many of our life’s experiences with others, but no one knows all of our experiences, but our self. We
keep no secrets from our self. We know our true self. BKD makes us look.

Though BKD training, a student becomes aware of conflicts and oppression within themself. When a
student learns to face and resolve the reasons for their conflicts and oppression, they will free
themself of those, the student will empty themself. To empty oneself, is to be free. It would be
considered an internal, or subjective type of martial art.
